Hassan: Senior JD(S) leader and Holenarsipura MLA H D Revanna has instructed municipal chief cfficer Shivashankar and office manager Jayalakshmi to hold salaries of the staff if rent arrears of commercial shops in the municipality crossed lakhs.In a meeting organised to discuss the pending rents on Tuesday, Revanna hit out at the rent collectors and directed the officials to hold their salaries if they failed to collect rent.Mohan, rent collector of municipal shops, said several tenants have outstanding dues running into lakhs, but they are not coming forward to clear the shop rent.He informed the chief officer that in the town, steps are being taken to vacate some more meat shops. A notice has been given to tenants to pay the rent within a week. Later, the shops will be locked and reauctioned. The advance deposit taken when the shop was allotted will be forfeited, he said.Revanna said there are allegations that accounts are not being maintained in the municipality and that taxes collected are being misappropriated.To prevent drinking water problems in the town, mainly near the bus stand and Devanga locality, he instructed engineers to prepare a proposal to install two mini water tanks.
