Srinagar, Oct 5: National Conference spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Monday urged Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo to complete and submit the report required to initiate the regularisation process for daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sadiq said the Assembly had set a six-month deadline for submission of the report, but nearly a year later, it was still pending.
“The Assembly had given six months to submit the report. It’s been a year today, and the report has not been completed even today,” he said while speaking to reporters about protests by vocational trainers, daily wagers and other workers over service-related issues.
He urged the Chief Secretary to submit the report to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah without further delay so that the regularisation process could begin.
On vocational trainers, Sadiq said they had approached the government and efforts were underway to find a solution. He also said the Health Minister was personally looking into the concerns of MBBS interns and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved.
Defending the performance of the Omar Abdullah-led government, Sadiq said improvements had been made in areas including power, roads and schools despite the constraints faced by the elected administration.
He also referred to measures including old-age pensions, free travel for women and free bus rides for persons with disabilities. Sadiq said the MLA constituency development allocation had also been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 4 crore, enabling smaller works such as lanes, roads and PDD-related projects to be taken up.
Sadiq said the government had three more years to fulfil the commitments made in the National Conference manifesto and expressed hope that the promises would be implemented one by one.
He also criticised the BJP and opposition parties, saying a strong opposition was essential for a healthy democracy but alleging that the opposition had failed to effectively raise public issues in the Assembly.
