Kanpur: The body of a 45-year-old man, Keshav Kumar, who had been missing since Oct 2, was found in a water-filled pit in a field near his home in Bhisar village under Sachendi police station on Monday.On receiving information, police and a forensic team inspected the scene, collected evidence and sent the body for postmortem examination.According to reports, Keshav had left home on foot on Oct 2, telling his family that he was going to Kisan Nagar, around 200 metres away. When he did not return that night, his family searched nearby areas and contacted his friends, relatives and acquaintances, but could not trace him. Family members said Keshav, who was unmarried, would often stay away from home and had an alcohol addiction.On Monday morning, passersby noticed a foul smell coming from the roadside field and alerted villagers. Keshav’s family reached the spot and identified the body.Keshav lived with his mother, Savitri Devi, and younger brother Rajan Shukla, a farmer. His father had died during treatment several years ago.Sachendi station in-charge Dinanath Mishra said the postmortem report would help establish the circumstances of Keshav’s death. The family has not lodged any complaint in this connection so far.
