Thiruvananthapuram: An excise anti-narcotics squad seized 105g of MDMA and arrested two persons allegedly involved in drug peddling in the state capital on Sunday. The arrested are Akash, 31, a native of Kallambalam, and Aravind, 29, a native of Chullimanoor, near Nedumangad.MDMA was allegedly brought to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru and was being taken to Kollam. They had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram by bus and were travelling on a two-wheeler towards Chullimanoor when they were apprehended.The inspection was conducted based on a tip-off received by the excise team. Acting on the intelligence, officers had placed them under surveillance.According to excise officers, the accused had been involved in drug peddling earlier as well but had managed to evade arrest. They said the duo was allegedly planning to sell the MDMA among school and college students.This is the third major seizure of MDMA in Thiruvananthapuram in the past three weeks.An excise officer said more arrests are expected in connection with the case as enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and are tightening checks along the borders to curb the movement of narcotic substances into the state. They are also investigating the source of the drug and the network involved in its transportation and distribution.
