Kanpur: Relentless rain kept Kanpur in the grip of a chilly, water-soaked spell, with showers continuing through the night after a day of rain on Friday and pushing the maximum temperature down by 0.4°C to 25.2°C on Saturday — 8.2°C below normal.The minimum temperature also fell by around 1°C to 20°C, while persistent rainfall drove the maximum and minimum relative humidity levels to 100% and 96%, respectively.North-westerly winds blowing at 8.5 to 17.3 kmph added to the chill, making the city feel colder.And there was little respite in sight, with more rain likely over the next 24 hours. S N Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said cloud movement over the next three days could bring light to heavy rainfall, accompanied by local thunderstorms and strong winds.Sunshine is also expected to make intermittent appearances on Sunday amid the cloud movement.The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, issued a yellow alert for Kanpur division, warning of heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds of 40 to 60 kmph in the districts over the next 24 hours.Kanpur Nagar recorded 175 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours preceding Saturday, with the IMD forecasting a strong possibility of further heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.The prolonged spell of rain disrupted daily life, while petty vendors bore the brunt as the incessant showers kept them indoors and prevented them from coming out for vending.
