LAKHIMPUR KHERI: A 26-year-old teacher was allegedly shot dead by a 28-year-old man inside a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday. The accused later allegedly shot himself and died, police said.The deceased was identified as Nishat Fatima, a resident of Hidayat Nagar under the Sadar Kotwali area, while the accused was identified as Mohd Saud Ansari, a resident of Naurangabad locality.Police said the two had known each other for a long time.Kheri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khyati Garg and District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh reached the school and inspected the spot.According to police, Ansari arrived at the school around 11.30 am to meet Fatima.“Saud came to the school at around 11.30 today to meet Nishat Fatima and went with her to her classroom upstairs,” the SSP said.Police said the two allegedly got into a verbal altercation before Ansari reportedly took out a country-made pistol and opened fire.“The youth, reportedly following some verbal dispute, whipped out a country-made pistol and fired at the woman, which left her dead on the spot,” Garg said.After the shooting, Ansari allegedly used the same weapon to shoot himself and died at the scene, police said.The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.“Investigations have been instituted to ascertain the reason behind the incident,” Garg said.Police and administrative officials inspected the scene and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
