Kolkata: The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port authorities have planned to allow common people to pick colours with which Howrah Bridge will be decked up. The port authorities have decided to open slots on 10 days a year for common people. An accompanying voice-over or a song chosen by the applicants will be played at Millennium Park and in a mobile application that they can hear while watching the iconic structure lit up with colours of their choice.“Whether the service will be free or chargeable will be decided soon,” said an official. The SPM Port authorities, custodians of Howrah Bridge, will also deck up the bridge with lights fit for occasions and play an accompanying sound at Millennium Park on 50 other days. There will be no slots for common people on these days. The special feature will be launched from Durga Puja, said an official.“We have reserved 50 days of a year when the bridge will be lit up with colours fit for the day. We may use the colours of the Tricolour on Independence Day,” said the official. “During Durga Puja, we may use any song that is identified with the puja and play it at Millennium Park. Visitors can hear the song while seeing the Howrah Bridge in colours familiar with Durga Puja,” said the official.More details on the days that will be opened for common people will be decided in the coming days.
