BAHADURGARH: A 45-year-old canter conductor was killed and the vehicle’s driver injured after an unidentified vehicle rammed into their stationary canter on the KMP Expressway near Asoda Toll Plaza in Bahadurgarh late Saturday night. The accident occurred around 12.30 am.The deceased has been identified as Krishna Chand (45), a resident of Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. He was working as the conductor of canter HP-17G-4217. The vehicle’s driver, Hemraj, also sustained injuries in the collision and was subsequently admitted to Civil Hospital, Bahadurgarh.According to police, Krishna Chand and Hemraj had stopped the canter near Asoda Toll Plaza after one of its tyres developed a problem. While the two were engaged in changing the tyre, an unidentified vehicle approaching from behind crashed into the stationary canter.The impact was severe, leaving Krishna Chand trapped between the two vehicles. He died on the spot. Hemraj sustained injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital, Bahadurgarh, where his condition was reported to be stable.Following the collision, the driver of the offending vehicle allegedly abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled. On the basis of Hemraj’s statement, police registered a case against the accused driver and initiated an investigation.ASI Sombir said Krishna Chand’s body was subjected to a post-mortem examination and subsequently handed over to his family. Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed around the accident site to establish the identity of the fleeing driver.“The post-mortem has been conducted and the deceased’s body has been handed over to his family. The injured driver’s statement has also been recorded. A case has been registered against the driver who fled after abandoning the vehicle. CCTV footage is being examined and further action will be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report,” ASI Sombir said.Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused driver at the earliest. Further investigation is in progress.
