Patna: Kishanganj police arrested the alleged kingpin of an interstate gang involved in preparing fake Aadhaar cards and forged documents during a raid in West Bengal on Sept 18. The accused, 24-year-old Swapnamay Adhikari of Narayanpur under Raina police station in East Bardhaman district of West Bengal, allegedly ran the racket with links across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.A case was registered at Terhagachh police station in April. The SIT traced Adhikari using confidential inputs and technical evidence.Kishanganj SP Santosh Kumar said, “The racket was busted on April 2, 2026. The gang allegedly prepared fake residential and school certificates and other forged documents, which were used to obtain Aadhaar cards. Illegal software, cloned biometric fingerprints and other technical equipment were used in the forgery.”The SP said Adhikari allegedly provided IDs and passwords linked to Aadhaar enrolment client software and used AnyDesk remote-access software to provide technical access to operators, including shopkeepers in Kishanganj and other districts.Police are probing how many operators received such access and how many fake Aadhaar cards and forged documents were created. They are also examining whether the documents were used to obtain passports, particularly in cases involving Bangladeshi nationals.
