Ponda: A brief distraction nearly caused a large passenger van to overturn at Bhoma on Saturday. The vehicle, carrying about 10 tourists from Davangiri, Karnataka, to Panaji, veered out of control when the driver leaned down to pick up a water bottle. The incident occurred on a narrow road stretch near the Devi Sati shrine at Bhoma, where the van reportedly fell on its side shortly after passing the shrine. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment at the Marcaim primary health centre. This was the second similar accident at the same spot in three months, though without major casualties. On June 20, a Karnataka high court official died after the vehicle he was in hit the shrine. Locals are demanding a bypass road, opposing a proposed flyover.
