Lucknow: An exhibition of rare film posters titled ‘Bisoscope 2-Gumnaam Hai Koi’ began at Kala Srot Art Gallery in Aliganj on Saturday. The exhibition gives a peek into the lesser-known stories of Indian cinema.The exhibition features around 50 posters and will remain open for the public till Oct 4 from 11am till 8pm .The rare posters are from the personal collection of Indian Revenue Service officer Suboor Usmani, who is also a collector, curator and film archivist. The exhibition was inaugurated by actor, screenwriter and theatre personality Atul Tiwari. Filmmaker and film historian Karan Bali was the guest of honour.Unlike conventional film exhibitions centred on famous stars and celebrated movies, BIOSCOPE-2 spans Indian cinema from the 1930s to contemporary times and includes original posters, vintage photographs and rare memorabilia.Among the stories featured are Kangan (1939) directed by German filmmaker Franz Osten and Ram Rajya (1943) — the only feature film which was watched by Mahatma Gandhi.The exhibition also has posters of BR Chopra’s Shole (1953), which predates the iconic Sholay (1975), and Chacha Chowdhury (1953), released years before the famous comic-book character of the same name.Founder of Metaphor Litfest, Kanak Rekha Chauhan, said, “Walking through these Bollywood posters feels like reliving decades of cinema, as every colour, face, design brings back a cherished memory from the silver screen”.
