New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband following a dispute over cooking eggs in south Delhi’s Tigri Friday. Shot in the abdomen, she was taken for medical treatment, but succumbed to her injuries.An altercation had broken out between the deceased, Poonam, and her husband, Kamlesh, who was allegedly drunk. Kamlesh then took out a country-made pistol and fired a shot while threatening to kill himself, resulting in injury to Poonam, police said.Neighbours claim that Kamlesh tried to portray the incident as a suicide. However, they grew suspicious and caught him before the police came and apprehended him.A neighbour, Sukumari, said, “We heard a loud sound around 7.30pm from their house. I thought it was a cylinder blast. When the children opened the door, Poonam was lying on the bed. Kamlesh claimed she had committed suicide. We immediately called the police to ensure he does not escape.”Another neighbour, Rohit, said, “Poonam’s children told us that she had a gunshot wound. They said after a while that their father got angry at what she had cooked and threw the subzi away. Then he shot her.”The illegal country-made pistol allegedly used in the crime was seized, police said. The accused works as a welder. The couple had three children. Neighbours say the couple had shifted there almost six months ago, and there had been no fights between them before.A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.In another case reported in Sept, a man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife following prolonged strained marital relations in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat.In a similar incident, a Delhi Police constable allegedly shot down his wife on her birthday at their home in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri in July. In June, a 30-year-old woman was shot dead at her home in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.
