Times News NetworkKanpur: Thirty kg of silver bars worth more than Rs 75 lakh and Rs 75,000 in cash were stolen from an almirah at a jeweller’s house in Chatai Mohal, Patkapur, in the city. The theft came to light on Friday night.ACP (Kotwali) Amit Kumar Pandey, Pheelkhana police and a forensic team inspected the house. Police inquired from jeweller Kishore Singh, his son and daughter until 2 am.In a complaint submitted on Saturday, the family suspected that someone known to them was involved in the theft. CCTV footage from some distance away showed a young man arriving with a bag slung over his shoulder and leaving later. Police are treating him as a suspect.Kishore Singh runs a jewellery shop at Kalyan Bhawan in Chowk Sarafa bazaar. He lives with his wife Sushila, son Abhay and daughter Priyanka on the first and second floors of their two-storey house. An almirah is in a ground-floor room where the family also parks its motorcycle.Abhay said he had brought 18 to 20 silver bars weighing 30 kg from the shop on Sept 12. The bars were divided into three packets and placed with Rs 75,000 in the locker of an iron almirah.On Friday night, when he went to remove a wooden plank at the threshold to park the motorcycle, he found the almirah and locker open. The silver and cash were missing. He informed his father and called UP 112 at 9.40 pm.The ACP said the police after receiving the theft complaint, inspected the scene with the forensic team and are examining CCTV footage.
