Srinagar, Sep 17: Two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists were killed in a joint counter-terrorism operation in Udhampur district, officials said on Thursday, as security forces continued intensive search operations in the area.
The operation was launched in the Brattal Sohan and Khubban forests of Majalta following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.
The Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) participated in the operation.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said, “In a joint intelligence-based operation during the intervening night of 16/17 Sep 2026, confirmed inputs indicated the presence of terrorists in the general area of Brattal, Udhampur.”
It said: “Despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility, troops of White Knight Corps, Police and CRPF launched a targeted counter-terrorism operation, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists.”
Official said a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of the encounter. The recoveries are being examined by security agencies as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Army said the operation remained in progress, with search and surveillance continuing in the area. Security forces have intensified combing operations across the surrounding forested terrain to ensure that no other terrorists remain concealed in the area.
The search operation is continuing, with troops conducting systematic searches of the dense forests, adjoining areas and possible escape routes. Security personnel are maintaining heightened vigilance as the operation progresses, officials said.
The identities of the slain terrorists and the precise nature of their affiliation were subject to further verification.
The operation highlights the continuing security focus on the forested and mountainous areas of the Jammu region, where forces maintain surveillance against suspected militant movements.
