Prayagraj: The Ganga and Yamuna rivers on Sunday continued to recede in the Sangam city. Officials of the flood control department claimed that water level of both the rivers has receded 32-38 cms in past 24 hours, and predicted that the receding trend will continue during the next 24 hours.Officials said that both the rivers are now flowing four meters below danger mark at three different points in the district on Sunday. The level of the Ganga at Phaphamau and Chatnag was 81.54 metre and 80.17 metre, respectively, by 12 noon. At Naini, the Yamuna was flowing at 80.58 metre. The danger mark for both the twin rivers is 84.73 metre.At 8 am, the water level of Yamuna at Naini was recorded 80.64 m, while the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag stood 81.58 and 80.21 m respectively.Residents living in river banks and low lying areas asserted that the receding rivers have left the land slippery and muddy. But, it was a major relief for them living on the river banks. Officials of the flood control department said they were maintaining a close watch and necessary steps would be initiated after accessing the situation.
