Ahmedabad: A slab of a building under construction in Kudasan gave way on Wednesday night, trapping several workers. After eight were pulled out from the rubble, 15 more are feared trapped under the debris. The incident occurred around 9.15pm.According to Gandhinagar chief fire officer Rajesh Patel, work on the commercial complex, Bosky the Empire, had reached up to the third floor. Around 9.15pm when labourers were working at the site, a slab on the third-floor suddenly gave way, causing a portion of the structure to collapse.

Officials said those rescued were rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. Local residents were the first to respond and managed to pull out four workers from the debris before fire brigade teams arrived and rescued four more.Rescue operations continued late into the night. Fire brigade teams were cutting through the fallen slab to reach those believed to be trapped. “We fear that some 15 labourers are still buried under the debris,” Patel said.

Senior officials at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital said that eight patients were received by EMRI ambulances from the site around 10pm, whereas two to three other patients were brought in other vehicles. “None of them are in a serious condition, and all have been treated for injuries. We have received word that there could be more persons from the site. Stabilising the injured is the priority,” said a senior official.Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi and Gandhinagar municipal commissioner rushed to the spot upon receiving news of the collapse.
