Kanpur: Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital has started round-the-clock testing for patients with symptoms of H1N1 swine flu, allowing samples to be processed locally and reducing waits for reports amid rising cases.Samples are being collected and tested at the 24-hour pathology unit in the hospital’s maternity block. The facility is expected to accelerate identification of infections and treatment of patients suspected of having the virus.The health department has stepped up vigilance and expanded identification and testing of suspected patients after H1N1 infections were confirmed in several districts near Kanpur. GSVM Medical College principal Sanjay Kala announced the facility. “This will bring relief to people of nearby districts as well,” he said.
