Madikeri: A total of 899 food samples from Kodagu district have been tested in the Mysuru laboratory between 2025-26 and 2026-27 till date. Of these, analysis reports for four food samples indicate that the food is unsafe, and the analysis reports for two food samples indicate that it is of low quality.Officials said case has been registered against those who are preparing/selling unsafe food items. A case has been registered under Section 51 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 Rules and Regulations, 2011, against those who are preparing and selling low-quality food items, they said, adding a total fine of Rs 10,000 has been imposed on the food preparers and sellers.During an inspection of spice and chocolate shops in Madikeri city limits, it was found that the food items did not comply with licence and labelling rules, following which a case was registered against about 17 shops and a fine of Rs 85,000 has been imposed.A total fine of Rs 40,000 was imposed in Somwarpet and Virajpet taluks, said Dr Anil Dhawan E, authorised officer of Food Safety and Drug Administration.
