Ahmedabad: Gujarat ATS arrested a man wanted in a firing case registered in Punjab after tracing him to Palanpur, officials said on Tuesday. An FIR had been registered against Sukhpinder Singh, a Punjab resident, at Sekhwan police station in Batala district in July.Based on a specific intelligence input that the accused was staying in Palanpur, ATS found him at a hotel there on the evening of Aug 22. He was subsequently brought to the ATS office in Ahmedabad for questioning.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told investigators that he was associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. He also confessed to his involvement in a firing incident on July 20.According to the ATS, the accused allegedly opened fire along with three associates. He then travelled to a relative’s house in Qadian, where he handed over his licensed .30-06 rifle to a cousin.He allegedly stayed near Kharar for about a week before travelling through Delhi, Hyderabad, and Nanded in Maharashtra, eventually reaching Palanpur, officials said.Several criminal cases have been registered against the accused in Punjab and Gujarat, including cases of attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, assault and offences under the Arms Act. An FIR was also registered against him at Amirgadh police station in Banaskantha in 2019 under Section 304 of IPC and Arms Act provisions.The ATS also found that he had spent around nine months in a Dubai jail in 2021 in connection with a drug-related case. Punjab Police have been informed about his arrest.
