KANPUR: A garment shopkeeper in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur allegedly sparked a massive crowd gathering after announcing a flash sale offering all clothing items for Rs 16 to mark his birthday.According to police, on August 15, 2026, a special offer was disseminated through social media by a shopkeeper in Alam Market under the jurisdiction of Anwar Ganj police station, promising to provide any type of clothing for Rs 16.The announcement drew a large number of people to the shop, leading to heavy crowding in the area.Upon receiving information, the Anwar Ganj police station team immediately reached the spot, controlled and dispersed the crowd, and restored normalcy to law and order at the scene.Police said a case has been registered against the shopkeeper in connection with the incident, and one named accused has been taken into custody for interrogation. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.Speaking on the matter, Assistant Police Commissioner Anwar Ganj, Shri Manjay Singh, said, “On 15.08.2026, an offer was disseminated through social media by a shopkeeper in Alam Market, under the jurisdiction of Anwar Ganj police station, promising to provide any type of clothing for Rs 16. Due to the aforementioned offer, a large crowd of people gathered at the shop.”“Upon receiving information, the Anwar Ganj police station team immediately reached the spot, controlled and dispersed the crowd, and restored normalcy to law and order at the scene. A case has been registered against the shopkeeper in the matter, and one named accused has been taken into custody for interrogation. Other necessary investigative and legal proceedings in the case are underway,” he added.
