Kanpur: A modern milk bank will soon be established at the paediatric hospital on the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital campus, for which Rs 25 lakh has been approved from the CSR fund.It is a specialised medical unit that collects, screens, pasteurises and stores donated human breast milk for newborns who, for various reasons, are deprived of their mother’s milk after birth.At the centre, lactating mothers will be able to voluntarily donate breast milk.The donated milk will be tested using modern equipment, pasteurised and stored safely.Dr Sanjay Kala, principal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, said equipment such as a pasteuriser, deep freezer, breast pumps and testing kits would be procured for the milk bank.
