KOLHAPUR: Padma Shri awardee, former Bihar, Tripura and West Bengal Governor, and renowned educationist D Y Patil, fondly known as “Dada”, died at his residence in Kasba Bawda in Kolhapur on Tuesday morning following a prolonged illness. He was 91.
Patil, a former Congress leader, is survived by his sons, Congress MLC Satej Patil, Sanjay Patil and Ajinkya Patil, and daughter Nandita Palshetkar.
Announcing the demise of her grandfather, Smita Jadhav, Pro-Vice Chancellor of D Y Patil Pimpri, said, “It is with profound grief and a heavy heart that I inform you of the sad demise of our beloved Founder, Hon’ble Dr D Y Patil Sir. His visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to education, and extraordinary legacy have shaped countless lives and institutions. His passing is an irreparable loss to the entire D Y Patil family.”
Patil was conferred the Padma Shri in 1991 for his contribution to the social sector.
He was survived by son’s Congress MLC Satej Patil, Sanjay Patil, Vijay Patil, Ajinkya Patil and daughters Bhageshree Patil, Supriya Patil, Rajashree Patil, Nandita Palshetkar and Pooja Patil.
