Kanpur: Two bike-borne kanwariyas travelling to Bithoor to fetch Gangajal were hit by a truck on Rasoolabad-Kanpur road in Kanpur Dehat on Sunday night, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured, police said.Dharmaraj (25), son of Dharmapal alias Kallu, a resident of Ikaurapur in Auraiya district, died on the spot, while his companion Rishu (21), son of Malik Singh, suffered serious injuries. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.Police said Dharmaraj left home at around 6 pm on Sunday with companions Rishu and Abhishek to collect Gangajal in Bithoor. Near Sant Hansanand Inter College on Rasoolabad-Kanpur road, a speeding truck coming from the Kanpur side hit their bike. The impact killed Dharmaraj on the spot and left Rishu seriously injured.Other kanwariya companions present at the spot took both men to CHC Rasoolabad. After medical examination, Dr Saurabh Shakya declared Dharmaraj dead, while Rishu was given primary aid.On receiving information, CO Alok Kumar, inspector SN Singh, sub-inspectors Rajesh Pratap and Ram Prakash, reached the hospital. Outpost in charge Kahijri Narendra Singh reached the spot and took the vehicle into custody. Additional superintendent of police Alok Prasad also reached the CHC and collected details of the accident from the deceased’s family members.Police said Dharmaraj was unmarried and ran an electronics shop. His family includes his mother Kapoor Devi and younger brother Kanhaiya. His father refused to allow a post-mortem examination and gave a written application to the police. Police then completed the necessary panchnama proceedings and handed over the body to the family.Inspector SN Singh said, “The driver fled from the spot and is being searched for. Police are investigating the matter thoroughly”.
