Ranchi: State chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Monday urged heads of higher and technical education institutions in Jharkhand to launch a large-scale awareness campaign to ensure 100 % registration of eligible young voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Addressing vice-chancellors, principals, directors and institutional heads through video conference from Nirvachan Sadan, Kumar said most young voters in the state are linked to universities, colleges or technical institutions, making campuses central to voter enrolment efforts.“No eligible Indian citizen of the state should be left out of the electoral roll,” Kumar said, adding that institutions must motivate eligible students and support them in coordination with the Election Commission (EC).“After publication of the draft electoral roll on Aug 5, a statewide outreach campaign would be conducted to add newly eligible voters through Form-6,” he said, ensuring that voter registration information reaches every eligible Indian citizen is the primary responsibility of the election machinery.Kumar directed principals and directors, in coordination with the department of higher and technical education to organise voter awareness programmes, registration camps and help desks on campuses.“Students who have completed 18 years of age, or will complete 18 years on 1 Oct, 2026, should be enrolled,” he said.The CEO said adequate publicity material on young voters has been supplied to all districts and institutions may use it with District Election Offices. He also called for focused social media campaigns to reach new voters and ensure no ineligible or foreign citizen is included. Other officials attended the meeting as well.
