Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed near Sishu Bhawan Square in the city on Saturday after family members of a nine-year-old boy protested against a private hospital, which they accuse of delaying treatment, leading to his death. They staged a road blockade with his body, disrupting traffic. Later, the blockade was lifted following police intervention.Anshuman Mohanty had reportedly complained of nausea and vomiting on Friday night. According to the family members, he was rushed to the private hospital around 9 pm. They alleged that the child did not receive timely and adequate medical attention.The hospital administration, however, refuted the allegations. “The child was brought to the hospital in a brain-dead condition. We attended to him as per protocol. The family initially wanted to shift him to another facility. Later, some individuals entered the premises, misbehaved with our medical staff and demanded a death certificate,” a doctor associated with the treatment said.The family claimed that after the boy passed away, the hospital refused to issue a death certificate, stating that he had not been declared clinically dead. Angered, relatives and local residents brought the body onto the road near Sishu Bhawan Square and demanded action against the hospital authorities.Police said the body was subsequently sent to Capital Hospital for postmortem. “We have pacified the family members and facilitated legal procedures. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the postmortem and any complaint received,” a police officer said.
