Balasore: A 21‑year‑old woman allegedly took her own life in Mayurbhanj district, unable to bear the loss of her boyfriend who had succumbed to a snakebite while undergoing treatment.The deceased, identified as Devi Singh of Dimagadia village under Udala police station limits, was found hanging in the backyard of her house on Sunday. Family members rushed her to Udala sub‑divisional hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police and relatives said Devi had been in a relationship with 24‑year‑old Pintu, who worked in Nalconagar area of Angul district. A few days ago, Pintu was bitten by a venomous snake at his workplace and admitted to hospital. Despite medical efforts, he died on Friday.Devi’s father, Maheswar Singh, said his daughter was inconsolable after Pintu’s death. “She was shattered. She kept saying she couldn’t imagine life without him. We tried to comfort her, but she was devastated,” he told reporters. On receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post‑mortem.Banamali Barik, inspector‑in‑charge of Udala police station, said: “We have registered an unnatural death case. The exact cause will be confirmed after the post‑mortem and inquiry. We are examining all circumstances surrounding the incident.”
