Colva: After the monsoon began a few days ago, villages in the Benaulim constituency are again facing frequent power outages, many lasting over 20 minutes.Consumers are frustrated as the Carmona sub-station’s official mobile number has been unreachable since June 20. Carmona sub-station junior engineer Satyam Raikar said there is no fault at Carmona sub-station. He said Carmona receives power from the Velim sub-station and most outages occur on the incoming lines due to overhead wires affected by strong winds and damage from falling trees or branches.Residents said the interruptions have been unusually frequent even without thunder or lightning.Velim supplies the Carmona sub-station, which serves Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim and parts of Varca. The Benaulim sub-station supplies Colva, Betalbatim, Benaulim and the remaining areas of Varca.Varca panchayat member Roland Fernandes said he receives three to four calls daily about repeated outages. He said Carmona staff respond when faults are local, but cannot act when supply from Velim fails.Fernandes asked the electricity department to take preventive measures and strengthen infrastructure to reduce monsoon disruptions.
