Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a demolition drive against unauthorized constructions erected by several establishments, including food outlets and salons, on footpaths in Aram Nagar on JP Road in the Versova area of Andheri (West). The BMC’s K-West Ward also disconnected illegal sewage connections of eight establishments — Arbab, Barista, Sorozaie, Hakim Salon, Persia Darbar, Ink N Brew, Darjeeling Lepcha Momos, and China Suburb. According to civic officials, some establishments had encroached on mandatory open spaces by using them as service areas and erecting unauthorized coverings over them.During the operation, officials seized items including LPG hot plates, electric induction cooktops, storage racks, electric oil fryers, microwave ovens, wooden tables, commercial LPG cylinders, chairs, and other materials. The action was carried out by a team of 22 officials and staff members from the BMC’s Maintenance, Public Health, Licence, Fire Brigade, Building, and Factory departments, along with officials from MHADA. Various equipment was deployed during the drive. Earlier, the civic body had also removed encroachments from a plot of land owned by a housing society.
