Times News NetworkKanpur: Panic has gripped villagers following reports of a leopard being sighted in Purwamir village under the Maharajpur police station area of Kanpur on Sunday. A forest department team reached the village and launched a search operation.The team conducted an intensive search across forest spread over about 1500 bighas and the surrounding fields. During this, a large number of villagers were also present along with the forest workers. The team searched for footprints and other evidence at possible locations, but no clear proof of the leopard’s presence was found. Forest personnel Bhupendra Kumar said that all the locations indicated by the villagers were inspected. Some footprints were found in the fields, but they do not confirm the leopard’s presence. He said that remains of a nilgai were indeed found, raising suspicion of activity by some wild animal, but no concrete evidence of a leopard was found.The Forest Department said that, considering the safety of the villagers, the area is being continuously monitored. The search operation will continue, and the team will keep monitoring the area until the wild animal is identified.
