Times News NetworkPrayagraj: Continuing its drive against tipsy driving, pressure horn and use of modified silencers , the Pratapgarh police carried out a special checking drive at Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway on Saturday night and challaned 80 drivers on the charges of violating traffic rules and regulations.In a joint intensive checking drive by Pratapgarh traffic police and the Hathigawan Police, led by traffic inspector Manoj Kumar and Hathigawan police station In-charge Satyendra Singh, 721 drivers passing through the toll plaza were checked with breath analysersThe police imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the offending drivers for using hooters and compounded fees (challans) amounting to Rs 3,000 was realised. Besides, 31 vehicles were challaned for using pressure horns and Rs 3.10 lakh fine was realised from them. Similarly, 42 vehicles were challaned for not having high security number plate and were fined up to Rs 2.10 lakh.Two vehicles were fined Rs 5,000 each for using high intensity black films and two bikes were challaned Rs 10,000 each for using modified silencers.A senior cop said, “The police has appealed motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. We have also urged drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol for their safety.” Similar action will continue in the future against traffic violatirs, he said.
