Mysuru: A driver died on the spot while five Block Education Officers (BEOs) from Mysuru district sustained injuries after a SUV in which they were travelling collided with a truck on Monday. The BEOs were heading to Bengaluru to attend a departmental meeting, officials said.The vehicle driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst near Mudugere, 7 kms from Ramanagara town in Bengaluru South district. All the injured officials are now being treated at three different hospitals in Mysuru city.According to the local police, Anand, 45, a resident of Gowrishankar Nagar in the city, who was driving the vehicle, died. He is survived by a wife and a toddler. They hired a taxi to attend the meeting in Bengaluru.According to sources, five block education officers (BEOs), ie, Mysuru North, Mysuru South, Mysuru Rural, Nanjangud and HD Kote BEOs, were travelling to Bengaluru. They started from the city around 8.50am. Near Mudugere, the tyre of the car burst and the vehicle toppled four times before hitting a truck on its way from Bengaluru to Mysuru.The driver, who sustained serious injuries, died on the spot.The truck driver escaped with minor injuries. “Within 3-4 minutes, locals arrived to help us. All were rushed to nearby hospitals before shifting to Mysuru hospitals for treatment,” officials said. “One of the BEOs was sitting in the front while three others were in the second row,” Channapatna police explained after registering a case in connection with the incident.According to sources, all the five officers are out of danger and being treated in the city hospitals. The body of the deceased driver, Anand, was handed over to the family after a postmortem.
