Mysuru: The Govt Ayurveda College and Hospital marked World Environmental Day by distributing 5,000 medicinal and herbal plants this year.Varieties of herbal saplings, including Adusoge, Nelabevu, Doddapatre, Lakkigida, Insulin sasya, Amruthaballi, Basale soppu, Dasavala, Vandalega, Shankhpushpi, ginger, turmeric, Ashoka, Noni, Hippali, Ashwagandha and Brahma, were distributed during the five-day programme undertaken by the Ayurveda University between June 1 and 5.Saplings were raised at Chandravana garden and distributed to the public.The Govt Ayurveda College celebrated this year’s World Environment Day with the slogan ‘one ayurveda saplings to one student’ at Chandravana on Friday. Principal of the College Dr Srivatsa inaugurated the distribution of saplings. Over 400 students of Ayurveda College also planted saplings at Chandravana. Various organisations, students took part in the event.A book fair was also organised jointly by the department of public libraries, City Central Library and at People’s Park Library on Friday to mark the World Environment Day. Deputy director of rural development and panchayat Raj Yeshaswini was present.
