Times News NetworkKanpur: A class 9 student was killed in a road accident in the city’s Jajmau police station area on Monday evening after a speeding sand-laden tractor hit her bicycle from behind while she was on her way to a coaching class. The critically injured student died in an ambulance while being taken to hospital.The deceased was identified as 14-year-old Shubhangi. Her father, Amit, worked at a local leather factory. She lived with her parents in JK Colony, Jajmau, and was the family’s only daughter.According to family members, Shubhangi was cycling to her coaching class in Harjinder Nagar on Monday evening when an out-of-control tractor struck he bicycle from behind near JK Chauraha. After the impact, she fell on the road and the tractor dragged her about 10 metres.According to eyewitnesses, Shubhangi kept screaming in pain after the accident. People at the scene stopped the tractor and lifted her. Her family members reached the spot after receiving information and took her to a nearby private hospital. As her condition was critical, doctors referred her to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, but she died in the ambulance on the way.According to eyewitnesses, the tractor driver, Raju, attempted to flee after the accident. People chased him, caught him and thrashed him severely. He was later handed over to the police.Jajmau police station in-charge Sanjay Pandey said that the student’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. A case is being registered on the basis of the family’s written complaint. The driver was taken into custody and was being questioned. Further action would be taken on the basis of the investigation.
