T’puram: Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will organize a film appreciation camp for children in Kollam from Friday to Monday with the aim of fostering film literacy and appreciation among young audiences.The camp will be inaugurated by tourism minister P C Vishnunath at Sree Narayana Guru Cultural Complex at noon on Friday. Kollam mayor A K Hafeez will preside over the function.Among those attending the inaugural event are cultural affairs director Divya S Iyer, district child welfare committee secretary D Shine Dev, camp director and actor Jolly Chirayath and academy secretary C Ajoy.A total of 70 children selected from different parts of the state will participate in the camp. Sessions will cover the basics of acting, direction, screenplay writing, cinematography and editing, along with interactions with film professionals, screenings of classic films and cultural programmes.Screenwriter Bahul Ramesh, known for films including Kishkindha Kaandam and Echo, will lead a session on screenplay writing. Actor Amal Raj Dev of television series Chakkappazham will conduct acting workshops.Other sessions will be led by cinematographer Salu K Thomas, editor-director Appu Bhattathiri, filmmaker-actor Mini I G and film society activist Nandalal Ramachandran. Classic films including Bicycle Thieves and Kummatty will be screened every evening.The valedictory function and certificate distribution on Monday will be inaugurated by women and child development minister Bindhu Krishna.
