Varanasi: In the early hours of Sunday, two armed men aboard the DDU-Tarighat passenger train gunned down a youth before flinging his body onto the tracks between Alinagar and Sakaldiha in Chandauli district. Panic erupted in the coach as the train slowed, giving the assailants their chance to leap off and vanish into the morning shadows.SP GRP Prashant Verma said that personnel from the GRP PDDU Junction station reached the spot, collected forensic evidence, completed legal formalities, and sent the body for postmortem. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, he said, adding that CCTV footage from previous stations is being reviewed to trace the shooters.Initial investigation revealed that two youths carrying backpacks boarded the train when it left Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction at 7:30 am. Shortly after the train crossed Alinagar, the duo got into a heated argument with a passenger. Within seconds, gunshots rang out, and passengers fled in panic, abandoning their seats.According to eyewitnesses, the assailants shot the youth at point-blank range, targeting his temple, then dragged his body to the door and threw it onto the tracks. Amid the chaos, no one in the coach dared to confront them. The two jumped off as the train slowed near Sakaldiha and fled the scene.Some passengers later alerted the railway control room and police. Officers from the GRP, RPF, and local police then reached the tracks near Ibrahimpur village, where the youth’s body had fallen. GRP officials also questioned passengers who were on the train.
