Kanpur: Residents on Monday experienced partial relief from the scorching heat on Monday as the mercury dropped by around 3°C. The maximum temperature settled at 41°C, with all weather observatories across the city recording similar readings. According to weather experts, there is a possibility of light rainfall over the next three days, which could help check the rising temperature trend and provide temporary respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions. However, this relief is expected to be short-lived, lasting only two-to-three days, after which temperatures may begin to rise again. Despite the dip in daytime temperature, the minimum temperature increased to 26.6°C. A significant rise in relative humidity was also recorded, climbing to 67% from 42% the previous day, adding to discomfort levels. Dr S Sunil Pandey, a weather expert at CSA University, attributed the expected change in weather to an active western disturbance affecting Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Due to its impact, there are strong chances of dust storms and light rainfall in the region. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also indicated that the severe heatwave conditions prevailing across North and Central India are beginning to ease due to successive western disturbances. However, intense heat may persist for the next three days in parts of Western Rajasthan, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal. In contrast, several regions, including Punjab, Haryana, North and East Rajasthan, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Awadh and Madhya Pradesh, are expected to receive light to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Isolated areas may also witness hailstorms and heavy showers. Weather activity is expected to intensify from Tuesday, with expanding rainfall coverage leading to a gradual decline in temperatures. Cloud formation during the afternoon hours is likely to reduce the intensity of solar heating. For Kanpur division, Tuesday’s weather is expected to bring mild sunshine along with intermittent cloud cover. As moisture levels rise, the heat index could hover around 50°C. Between April 28 and 30, light rain or showers accompanied by strong winds, dust storms and isolated hailstorms are likely, offering intermittent relief to residents.
