Chennai: A 90-year-old woman died after a compound wall collapsed on her during renovation work at her house in Gangaiamman Koil Street in Kolathur on Saturday evening.The victim, Chellammal, who lived with her son and his family, was washing vessels near the compound wall when construction debris was being unloaded next to the wall, the police said. The impact caused the wall to collapse on her, leaving her trapped under the rubble. Neighbours rushed her to the Periyar Nagar Government Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.Based on a complaint, the Rajamangalam police registered a case and arrested Karthik, 34, of MGR Nagar, for negligent dumping of the debris. Further investigation is on.
