Rourkela: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Deogarh has initiated disciplinary actions against nine senior students following an inquiry into an alleged ragging and assault incident involving six Class IX boarders in their school hostel.School principal Uttam Prasad said on Friday that based on the findings of the inquiry committee, five Class XI students have been recommended for issuance of Transfer Certificates (TCs), while four Class XII students have been barred from attending classes and staying in the hostel. They will be permitted to visit the school only to appear for examinations until they complete Class XII, he said.Prasad submitted the inquiry committee’s report to the Deogarh collector on Friday and forwarded a copy to the deputy commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Bhubaneswar.The incident came to light on Wednesday after six Class IX students alleged that nine seniors assaulted them inside the hostel on Tuesday night. Three of the victims sustained injuries.According to sources, four Class XII and five Class XI students allegedly entered the room of the six Class IX boarders, subjected them to ragging and later assaulted them. The injured students were provided medical treatment after the matter was reported to the school authorities. Subsequently, all six victims were taken home by their parents, while the accused students were asked to leave the campus.The father of one of the victims lodged a complaint at Deogarh Town police station on Wednesday night. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
