PATNA: Police arrested at least 30 people in Bihar on Monday for allegedly attempting irregularities during the NEET-UG re-examination.Of those arrested, 18 were personnel deployed at examination centres who allegedly violated biometric verification norms, while most of the remaining accused were impersonators who attempted to appear for the exam in place of genuine candidates, news agency PTI reported.Additional director general of Police (ADG) (Law and Order) Sudhanshu Kumar said 18 staff members associated with the biometric verification system were taken into custody for allegedly colluding with dummy candidates and middlemen by compromising the verification process.According to a statement issued by Lakhisarai police, nine impersonators, one genuine candidate and two associates were also arrested.The impersonators included fourth-year MBBS students from New Jalpaiguri Medical College in West Bengal, AIIMS Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh and AN Magadh Medical College in Bihar.Others arrested were a first-year student of Government Medical College, Satna in Madhya Pradesh, an MBBS intern from University College of Medical Sciences in Shahdara, Delhi, a fourth-year B. Pharma student from NMCH Patna and another student from NMCH Patna.Two female impersonators were also among those held: a BSc nursing student from BHU and a BAMS student from a government ayurvedic college in Odisha, PTI reported.A genuine candidate, Sanjeet Kumar from Nalanda district, was also arrested for irregularities, officials said.Among the arrested biometric verification staff were three supervisors and a fourth-year MBBS student from PMCH Patna.The ADG said two FIRs have been registered at Kiul and Kavaiyya police stations in the district.The NEET-UG re-examination was held across Bihar on Sunday under tight security after the original test conducted in early May was cancelled following widespread allegations of a question paper leak.(With agency inputs)
