Dibrugarh/Guwahati: Education authorities in Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Hojai, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Nagaon and Sribhumi have revised school timings amid prevailing hot and humid conditions.The revised schedule, effective from Monday until further orders, applies to all govt, provincialised and recognised private schools in the nine districts. In most districts, classes will begin at 7.30am and end by 12.30pm.School heads have been directed to conduct morning assemblies in shaded areas and ensure immediate medical attention for students affected by the heat .The decision follows a rise in maximum temperatures across Assam, with several places recording more than 36°C over the past few days. Temperatures at several locations have remained more than 4°C above normal.In Jorhat, inspector of schools-cum-DEEO Buli Gogoi Bhuyan issued an order on Sunday revising timings from Monday for all govt, provincialised and private schools following directions from the district commissioner.Under the revised schedule, lower primary schools in Jorhat will operate from 8am to noon, middle English and upper primary schools from 8am to 12.30pm, and high and higher secondary schools from 8am to 1pm.Schools have also been instructed to provide adequate drinking water at regular intervals through “water bells”, ensure electric fans are functional and restrict outdoor activities. Heads of institutions have been asked to comply strictly with the revised timings and take precautions to protect students, including minimising their exposure to direct sunlight.
