Ahmedabad: With rainy spells continuing for the second straight day, on Monday, the city’s seasonal tally reached 82%. Until 8pm on Monday, Ahmedabad received an average of 88mm of rainfall, while in the 24 hours ending 6am on Monday, it recorded 43mm.

The morning-to-afternoon downpours exposed AMC’s pre-monsoon plan, with 64 complaints of waterlogging coming in from across the city. Over 100 locations were flooded with knee-deep water. The locations included Sindhu Bhavan Road, Judges Bungalow Road, SG Highway Service Road, 132 Feet Ring Road, the stretch from Vastrapur lake towards Himalaya Mall, and Helmet Circle.Areas that recorded high rainfall included Sarkhej (144mm), Vatva (143mm), Bopal (135mm), Jodhpur (123mm), Bodakdev and Dudheshwar (119mm), and Maninagar (101mm).According to AMC data, it received 23 complaints related to falling trees, and two complaints related to dangerous structures. Of the 89 complaints, 34 were addressed and work on others was initiated, officials said.Due to heavy rain, underpasses at Mithakhali, Makarba, Akhbarnagar, Dakshini, and Shahibaug were closed for four to five hours.The civic authority deployed 34 Varun pumps and 58 Fighter dewatering pumps across 92 locations to clear excess water.Several residential societies in Memnagar, Judges Bungalow Road, and Gurukul Road reported rainwater entering homes. Waterlogging also occurred outside Sterling City Society in Bopal.A school van broke down in deep water in Jodhpur, while stranded vehicles were abandoned across various city streets, intensifying gridlock.Fallen trees crushed parked vehicles in Maninagar and near Parimal Garden; however, no casualties were reported.Water accumulation along SG Highway service roads caused lengthy traffic jams. Duct lines laid parallel to SG Highway overflowed, impeding stormwater drainage. Sentosa Park Society, which was flooded during the July deluge, faced renewed waterlogging right at its entrance.AMC deployed labourers across more than 100 waterlogged spots to open catchpits and manhole covers, yet stormwater drainage remained sluggish in multiple areas.Although the rain eased around 2pm, severe waterlogging persisted on Judges Bungalow Road, the multilevel parking crossroads on Sindhu Bhavan Road, Iscon-Ambli BRTS corridor, and connecting interior streets.The junction at Judges Bungalow Crossroads remained heavily inundated, forcing several motorists to drive on the wrong side of the road to bypass submerged lanes.In response to the downpour, AMC and state irrigation department opened nine gates of Vasna barrage.
