Chennai: At least 845 foreign medical graduates applied for internships in state medical colleges through the FMG (foreign medical graduates) portal launched by state health minister Ma Subramaniam last week.Foreigners who complete their course at a recognised foreign medical college, can clear the screening test (FMGE) conducted by NMC, and take up internships in state or private medical colleges in the state after obtaining an eligibility certificate and a no-objection certificate from the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council and the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

“DME allots colleges to these students. The number of such graduates applying for internships has increased now. To simplify the process of getting allotment and reduce the waiting period, a web portal was designed,” said director of medical education Dr R Suganthy Rajakumari.Eligible candidates can apply for internships through the portal from 1st to 10th of every month. Candidates must upload necessary documents, such as the provisional certificate, degree certificate, no-objection certificate, and NEET scorecard, on the portal.“Vacancies in all colleges will be on display. Candidates must fill in the preferred place for internship through the portal. Allotment will be done according to seniority and choice of place for internship,” she said. Results will be declared on 16th of every month, and candidates can take the provisional certificate from the council from 16th to 19th. They must join the allotted colleges on or before 25th of the same month, she said.
