Patna: The Government Railway Police (GRP) has successfully rescued an eight-month-old boy who was abducted from Samastipur Junction and arrested five people for their alleged involvement in the crime. The accused include two doctors from East Champaran’s Motihari. During the investigation, police found that the infant, Ashish Kumar, was allegedly sold for Rs 3.8 lakh after being kidnapped.The incident took place on June 14 when Ranjit Rai, a resident of Khaluri village under Kalyanpur police station, reached Samastipur Junction around 6:30 am with his wife, Gudiya Devi, and their two children to board a train to Hyderabad. While waiting near the enquiry counter, Gudiya Devi and Ranjit Yadav sat with the children on a sheet spread on the floor.Disclosing the incident, GRP Station House Officer-cum-Inspector Birbal Rai said about ten minutes later, two of the accused, Sonu Sahni and Shanti Devi, approached the family, struck up a conversation, and began playing with the infant.“They claimed they were also travelling to Hyderabad, gradually gaining the family’s trust. Later, Gudiya’s husband went towards the market. While Ranjit briefly left the station, Gudiya was persuaded to search for him. By the time she returned, her sleeping eight-month-old son had disappeared and the couple who were sitting nearby. A case was registered on the statement of the woman,” the SHO said.During the raid, the kidnapped child was safely recovered from Balua Narayanpur in the Amnour police station area of Saran district. The child was subsequently returned to his family.According to GRP, Shanti took the child to Muzaffarpur by the special exam train. From there, she traveled to Mehsi, where the child was taken to Sunil Kumar’s clinic through Sunny Sahni. After staying at the clinic overnight, the child was handed over to Vikas Kumar. Police investigations revealed that Sunny received Rs 1.30 lakh from the transaction. Vikas Kumar then handed the child over to Suman Devi of Saran district. According to police, Suman Devi, eager for a son, purchased the child for Rs 3.80 lakh.During the investigation, it was also discovered that the main accused, Sunny, already had a case registered against him for the murder of his sister-in-law. Railway police say they are also investigating other possible connections to the gang.
