Hisar: A Fatehabad court on Wednesday sentenced Amarjeet Singh to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in a 2018 narcotics case involving the seizure of 75g heroin. Additional district and sessions judge Hemant Yadav also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Singh, with an additional five months’ rigorous imprisonment in case of default.According to district attorney Devender Mittal, the case was registered at City Fatehabad police station on Jan 19, 2018, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.The prosecution said police had stopped Singh and conducted a search as per procedure, during which 75g heroin was allegedly recovered from his possession. The contraband was seized and samples prepared as prescribed.After completing the investigation, police filed a chargesheet. During the trial, the prosecution relied on documentary evidence and witness testimony.The court, after examining the evidence and finding the prosecution witnesses’ testimony credible, convicted Singh under the NDPS Act and awarded the five-year sentence and fine.
