T’puram: A fast-track court in Attingal sentenced a 75-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for attempting to sexually assault a four-year-old girl at her residence in Vellalur village. The convict was found guilty in the case registered by Kilimanoor police. The sentence was pronounced by Attingal fast-track court judge C R Bijukumar. In default of payment of the fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional two months of imprisonment. According to prosecution, the incident occurred on Jan 31, 2025. The accused, a neighbour of the survivor’s family, allegedly trespassed into the house when the child was alone and attempted to sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light after the child began displaying signs of depression and withdrawal. Concerned by the change in her behaviour, her parents sought counselling, during which the child disclosed what had happened. Following her statement, police swiftly registered a case and launched a thorough probe. The probe was completed and the chargesheet was submitted by SI Pradeep K. Special public prosecutor U Salimsha appeared for prosecution, assisted by Neelima R Krishnan.
