Ahmedabad: A 74-year-old retired woman approached Vastrapur police station alleging that gold jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh was stolen from her residence while she was recovering from a knee surgery.According to her complaint, she underwent a knee surgery on June 13 and was discharged two days later. During her hospitalisation, her house remained locked for around three days. After returning home, her brother, sister-in-law and nephew stayed with her between June 17 and 21 to help her recover and look after the house.The woman told police that she had kept around 11 tolas of gold jewellery, including a chain, pendant, bangle, two patlas and a ring, in a drawer of a cupboard. She said the drawer was not separately locked.She alleged that on June 21, she showed the jewellery to her sister-in-law after being asked to bring it out so it could be kept safely. The woman said she later noticed the jewellery missing when she checked the cupboard on July 18.She subsequently called her sister-in-law and nephew and questioned them about the jewellery, but they denied knowledge of it, according to the complaint. Police are verifying the allegations and examining the movements of people who had access to the house during the period.
