Chandigarh: Punjab Police have registered 60,582 FIRs and arrested 79,784 drug smugglers, including 708 “big fish” in 354 commercial-scale cases, since the launch of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said Monday.Addressing a press conference with chief minister Bhagwant Mann, Yadav said that between Mar 1, 2025 and Sep 10, 2026, police seized 3,803 kg heroin, 976 kg opium, 46 tonnes poppy husk, 1,325 kg ganja and 78 lakh intoxicant capsules/tablets.He said Punjab accounted for about 60% of India’s heroin recoveries. Yadav said scientific investigations had pushed Punjab’s conviction rate to 89%. Of 13,430 NDPS cases decided since Mar 1, 2025, convictions were secured in 11,981, he said.Properties worth Rs 366 crore were frozen in 914 cases under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, while 102 hawala operatives were arrested and Rs 11 crore recovered, he said.He added Punjab was the first state to deploy the AI-driven Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS), which had conducted 4.6 crore searches leading to the arrest of 4 lakh accused.Under the chief minister’s reward policy, Rs 3.3 crore has been disbursed to 2,362 civilians and police personnel for actionable intelligence and drone intercept recoveries, Yadav said.On counter-terror operations between Mar 16, 2022 and Sep 11, 2026, he said the counter-intelligence wing had busted 92 terror modules and arrested 686 terrorists. It recovered 54 rifles, 599 revolvers/pistols, 38 tiffin IEDs/IEDs, 28.9 kg RDX and other explosives, 131 hand grenades and six RPGs with launchers, besides intercepting 952 drones out of 1,493 sightings.Yadav said 43 terror attacks had been reported since Sep 2024 and all had been solved, while nine claims were found to be hoaxes or fabricated. He added that Counter Intelligence had pre-emptively neutralised 53 terror modules.
