ALWAR/GURGAON: Seven workers were killed and four others injured after a sudden soil collapse at a construction site of Signature Global Company in Sidharawali area of Gurgaon on Sunday evening.According to police, the incident occurred on March 9 at around 7 pm while construction work of STP was underway at the site. Several workers present there got buried under the soil after the collapse.Police from Bilaspur police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also called in. A joint rescue operation was carried out by the police, district administration, SDRF and NDRF teams, which continued till around 3.30 am.During the operation, the workers trapped under the soil were pulled out and shifted to the nearest hospital. Seven workers were declared dead while four others sustained injuries and were admitted for treatment.
The deceased were identified as Shivshankar of Banihara, Parmeshwar Mehto of Hondai, Mangal Mehto of Hathi Binda, Bhagirath Gope of Pohita in Jamshedpur, Satish of Burka Jadthal Nagar in Bharatpur, Sanjeev Gope of Pohita in Jamshedpur, and Dhananjay Mehto of Hondai, Jharkhand. The injured were identified as Indrajeet, Chhotelal and Shivkaam Chaudhary, all residents of Nepal, and Deendayal Sharma of Bandikui.Police said the families of the deceased and injured have been informed about the incident. Legal proceedings are being initiated and a case will be registered after receiving a complaint from the family members. “action will be taken against those found responsible as police are examining all aspects of the incident”, Sandeep Turan, Gurgaon police spokesperson said.
