T’puram: City Dansaf team seized 6kg of ganja allegedly smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and arrested two men at Kazhakkoottam on Wednesday.The arrested are Noushad Khan, 49, of Palode, and Mahin Kann, 45, of Vallakkadavu.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that the contraband was brought to the city for distribution among school and college students and others during Onam celebrations.The seizure was made as part of Operation Toofan. The police said the accused used multiple modes of transport to evade detection while transporting the contraband from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala.The Dansaf team had received information that the accused were transporting the ganja from Palasa (Andhra Pradesh) and began monitoring trains arriving in Kerala. Suspecting that their movement had come under police surveillance, the accused allegedly abandoned the train journey and used a truck, car and other vehicles for transportation.The police said the accused also admitted to changing their clothes several times during the journey to avoid detection.Both accused have previously been booked in narcotics-related cases, police said.The operation was conducted by narcotic cell assistant commissioner V Gopakumar and his team. Kazhakkoottam police registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.
