Police prepared a chargesheet of about 600 pages with more than 20 witnesses against a woman accused of stabbing her husband to death

Kanpur: Pheelkhana police have prepared a nearly 600-page chargesheet with statements of more than 20 witnesses against a woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband, while finding no evidence against the man alleged to be her lover. Police said the chargesheet names only the wife as an accused and will be filed after legal opinion is received.ACP Kotwali Manish Pandey said, “The chargesheet has been prepared, in which only the deceased’s wife has been made an accused.” He added, “No evidence has been found against her alleged lover on the basis of which it can be said that he was involved in the murder or that the murder was committed at his behest.” He said the chargesheet would be filed soon after legal opinion is received.The investigation found that the woman used to talk to her alleged lover on the phone and that she allegedly committed the murder after her husband objected.Manish Gupta, a resident of Neel Wali Gali on Birhana Road, had a love marriage with Niharika, a resident of Shantinagar in Cantt, on June 30, 2017. In September 2020, Niharika gave birth to a child.Manish’s father, Ramkishor Gupta, alleged that his daughter-in-law became involved in a love affair with a man two years ago. He said that whenever Manish objected, she would quarrel with him and leave the house.He further alleged that Manish had once spoken to the man on the phone and asked him to stay away from Niharika, after which the latter threatened to kill the family.He alleged that on June 5, Niharika was talking to the man on the phone when Manish objected, following which she stabbed him. Manish died during treatment on June 16.Police said the murder accused has been sent to jail.
